US$900 Marantz SR5009 Home Theatre A-V Receiver - 4K Video goes great with 5.1 Dolby Digital HD Audio in 2 Rooms

Marantz seems to have hit the sweet spot when it comes to Headphone amplifiers for Disk-Jockeys with the very affordable US$800 Marantz HD-DAC1 Headphone Amplifier as described in my blog article entitled “US$800 Marantz HD-DAC1 Headphone Amplifier - Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC makes this a Disc Jockey-s Value-buy”.

Now they’ve decided to make a head-on assault in the Home Theatre Receiver World with their equally affordable US$900 Marantz SR5009 Home Theatre A/V Receiver as described in the article “Marantz SR5009 review: Stellar sound in a classy package”, published October 23, 2014 by Steve GuttenBerg, CNET Renews.

Like the US$800 Marantz HD-DAC1 Headphone Amplifier, the boxy US$900 Marantz SR5009 Home Theatre A/V Receiver carries on that nautical tradition, SpongeBob Square pants style with a porthole monochrome display rimmed with a chrome metal ring. It's also got a great remote control that's not very readable in the dark albeit it has an easy-to-navigate onscreen menu and is controllable even using Spotify App, which it supports.

It is for this reason I personally recommend you get the Marantz SR5009 Home Theatre App for iOS and Google Android on your smartphone and pair it via Bluetooth for a true smart control of the power-hungry beast of an A/V Receiver for your Home Theatre.

Good to note her it also has Wi-Fi and support Wi-Fi Streaming from PCs, Macs, and iOS devices using Apple's AirPlay to any Wi-Fi enabled Speakers that you may have as a part of your rig!

The retro look belies some modern styling that one expected in a Home Theatre Amplifier including built-in support for Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM and Flickr Apps.  It’s a seven channels beast at 180W apiece, a big step-up from the 50W output of the cheaper US$700 Marantz NR1605.

It's also got 4K at 60Hz for its 8 (8) HDMI inputs plus 2 HDMI outputs, allowing it to feed two (2) 4K such as Samsung's U9000 Series 4K UHDTV (Ultra-High Definition Television) as described in my Geezam blog article entitled  “Samsung unveils their First Curved Ultra High Definition TV, the U9000 Series at Mona Visitors Lodge”.

US$900 Marantz SR5009 Home Theatre Amplifier - 4K Video goes great with 5.1 Dolby Digital HD Audio in 2 Rooms

But the real surprise is in its Audio Capabilities, as this bad boy has support for HD Audio, set to become popular this Christmas based on the popularity of the US$1,199 Oppo HA-1 Headphone Amplifier as described in my blog article entitled “US$1,199 Oppo HA-1 Headphone Amplifier – Retro 80's Polished Portable HD Audio Sound System makes Live Music great with any Headphone

The US$900 Marantz SR5009 Home Theatre A/V Receiver throws up some respect for the older Blu-Ray and DVD with support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio and other older Analog Codecs. In terms of Audio, though, it's clearly a great product for aficionados of HD Audio formats with resolutions up to 192kHz/24bit:

1.      AAC
2.      AIFF
3.      ALAC
4.      DSD
5.      FLAC
6.      MP3
7.      WAV
8.      WMA

The Amplifier is powered by a Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM) with lots of boom but little hiss or noise as stated in the article “Marantz’s new SR5009 Network A/V receiver does everything but make your bed”, published June 19, 2014 By Ryan Waniata, DigitalTrends.

Amazingly, it's seen (7) 180W Channels can be split into two (2) 5.1 Dolby Digital HD Audio to power speaker setups in two separate rooms with two independence Audio Source. You’ll get a lot of help with setup thanks to the setup assistant with Audyssey MultEQ XT room calibration.

Still, if you're the retro type with a modernistic Steampunk flair that likes to drop on the Deck and flub like a Fish, Spongebob Squarepants style, then the four (4) smart select buttons  via Marantz’s App for iOS and Android devices to control this 7.2 channel pre-amp output for integration with a dedicated amplifier a snap.

With so many features and the excellent sound that results, the US$900 Marantz SR5009 Home Theatre A/V Receiver is a steal at US$900 and should already be on your Christmas shopping list, of it isn't already in your Home Theatre.
