LG Electronics Internet Controlled LED Light Bulb - Li-Fi’s Standardization of Alexander Graham Bell’s First Invention powered by Powerline AV 500 and Homeplug AV

There is a slew of coming products based on the concept of the Internet of Things. CCTV cameras come to mind for Jamaicans, a feature that’s found on most DVR (Digital Video Recorders) that enables you to remotely views your Cameras from any Internet connected device, be it a Laptop, Tablet or smartphones.


Enter yet another device which in my opinion, deserves honourable mention on my blog. LG Electronics now has a Light Bulb that you can control with your smartphone as stated in the article “LG Lights up smart Bulb that responds to your phone”, published March 24, 2014 6:05 AM PDT by Lance Whitney, CNET News.

This LED (Light Emitting Diode) Light Bulb can be controlled using a smartphone or Tablet. Nothing fancy here, as it’s basically a lot like having a remote control on your device that you can use to control the Lighting at your premesis over the Internet.

What’s new here is that the Bulb comes with this built in. Thus, it’ll only be a matter of time before LED Light Bulbs come standard with the ability to not only be controlled over the Internet, but to also be a source of the Internet Access as well.

If the LED Light Bulb is being controlled over the Internet, it suggests that the LED Light Bulb may have a SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) installed. This would be an early herald for a coming time when Unlocked SIM Cards would become commonplace as predicted in my blog article entitled “The Netherlands makes Carrier Unlocked SIM Cards Legal - Apple's Idea revived heralding M2M and the Internet of Things, a financial Boon to Telecom Providers”.

Subscribers to Telecom Providers can connect to their Internet Connected LED Light Bulb over GPRS (Global Packet Radio System) or EDGE (Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution), 3G/4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) and control them from afar. Most likely, however, the LED Light Bulbs are connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

Either way, the Internet Connection set up the possible that the LED Light Bulb can function as a Wi-Fi Router or hotspot, possibly even using Wi-Fi Direct protocol, allowing Network installers in the future to install Internet Access and Lighting at the same time.

Internet Service may also be provided via connectivity through the electrical sockets in the House via the deployment of Powerline AV Adaptors to transmit Internet Access over Electrical Wiring as described in my Geezam blog article entitled “How to expand and secure your Wi-Fi Network with Power-Line Adaptors”.

Should this arrangement exist and the LG Electronics LED Light Bulbs function this way, they’d serve the purpose of extending Intranet in side of a building or premesis without having to install more CAT 5/6 Cableing as well as additional Wi-Fi Routers. Even more exciting is the prospect that Internet Access may be transmitted to receiving devices not via using Radio Waves, but by Optical Frequencies i.e. Light Waves.

Phillips has already developed Lighting fixtures that not only receive Internet access using Electrical Sockets using the Powerline AV 500 or Homeplug AV Protocol but also send information to smartphones via Light Pulses as described in my blog article entitled “Phillips Intelligent Lighting System launched at Euroshop Retail Show - Li-Fi Network for In Secret Personalized LBS Coupons and Services at the Speed of Light”.

Effectively a form of Li-Fi Internet Access, first of its kind and a fulfillment of a prediction I made of this coming technological trend of Light becoming use to transmit the Internet thus making the Routers blend into the Lighting schema of the surroundings as explained in my blog article entitled  “EPSRC and University of Strathclyde researches FLORA based Li-Fi for developement in the next four years - Selena Gomez’s Come and Get It FLORA Li-Fi for Last Mile Internet to be Downloaded”.

LG Electronics jumpstarting Internet of Things - Powerline AV 500 and Homeplug AV

The Internet of Things is going to get a big boost with the development of these Light Bulbs. Even if they are just LED Bulbs that are controllable over the Internet using an App, it’s only a matter of time before Unlocked SIM Card become commonplace.

When this happens, it will result in a flurry of products that can be controlled not just by smartphones, but also via ordinary phones as well. An example being the RottGuard Car Alarm and Immobilizer as described in my blog article entitled “Irish f6 and Digicel Business partner to offer Fleet Management and Vehicle Tracking Services - St. Patrick's Day Blood Ties and the Luck of the Irish to Rob the Mob in Jamaica”.

At that point also, the cost of having miniaturized electronics that can do Wi-Fi Routers and implement the Powerline AV 500 or Homeplug AV Protocol would be possible. Throw in the possibility of a coming standardization of the Li-Fi Protocol and we may start seeing LED Bulbs coming with not only Wi-Fi Internet access baked in but Li-Fi Internet as well.

Imagine every device in your house talking not only via Radio Waves but using the very Lighting in your Light Bulbs. Very handy and convenient as it would be illuminating your space as you become more illuminated via your access to the Internet on your Laptop, smartphone and Tablet and later smartwatch synched with your smartphone in the future as predicted in my blog article entitled “Facebook buys Oculus Rift for US$2 billion - Facebook Social Virtual Reality Future as Smartwatches and smartglasses herald the death of the smartphone in 2015”.
