How to find work in Jamaica at Call Centers - Sutherland Global Service hiring Full-Time Customer Care for Mona Technology Park in Christmas

Looks like I was right on the money about Rochester, New York based Sutherland Global Services, the Call Center that’s based on the UWI (University of the West Indies), Mona Campus. Sutherland Global Services is now hiring Full-Time Customer Care Consultants to work at the Mona Technology Park as Christmas draws nigh based on advert in the Career Section the came in the Sunday Gleaner dated Sunday October 20th 2013!

As it turns out, University Students are having some difficulties adjusting to the reality of having to work in a Call Center while Studying as many may reject the notion of doing a Degree only to end up serving White Americans on the phone as I’d predicted in my blog article entitled “UWI opens Call Center to employ Students - Call Center Work before Six Degrees of Hell in the Working World”.

UWI Students Dilemma – Now Serving White People while doing a Degree is a Reality

As mentioned in the article, UWI is a bit of a bubble in terms of their Internal Economy. Many are from Middle class or well-to-do Working Class Families both within Kingston as well as from the Rural and Urban Areas outside of Kingston. They sent their children to UWI to get a Degree, not to wait on Americans, mainly White Americans.

So many of them may not want their children to World in a Call Center, fearing they may end up liking the lifestyle so much and thus drift towards it after graduation. Most likely too, many of the UWI Students themselves may have heard negative things about Call Centers in General and thus may be put off by the low salaries and the 24/7 Nature of Call Center work, where Personnel Department sets Work Hours based on Traffic Demand, which may be even in the Middle of the Night, if Sutherland Global Services Clients have 24 hour accounts!

Thus, as many of these Millennials (ages 18 to 28) who come from fairly financially well off backgrounds, are probably thinking that all-in-all, they’re above the notion of serving others, especially White Americans. Coupled with the pressures of  Mid-Term and Final Exams, many UWI students even in Second or Third Years, the possible source of Call Center Agents for Sutherland Global Services, may find it hard to work at a Call Center while studying, even if they’re’ paying JA$300 per hour.

Ironic, as many of them, whose parents may be financially well-off or they have relatives abroad may be seeking to go to college abroad, only to discover they may have to do the same thing to make extra pocket money and survive as Campus Jobs don’t pay all that much. In which case a degree in Engineering is the best fit, as it pays more both locally as well as in the US as explained in my Geezam blog article entitled “Engineering Degrees are among the Top Earning Degrees in the USA for Jamaican College Students”.

UWI Students need to adjust their reality lens: it’s about survival as the skills learned can help you land a job in the real world. Also, to get a job in a Call Center doesn’t require a Degree; best strategy is to take your Degree and look at the courses that can be made into alternative skills as well as to use your CXC’s to get lower-paying and lower level jobs.

This’ll pay the Bills and allow you to tread water and survive, landing you a job in a Call Center for awhile and allow you to keep applying for work until your dream job that fits your qualifications comes along as I have done as chronicled in my blog article entitled “How to find work in Jamaica at Call Centers - Job Agencies, Applications with Proposals and Reading the Sunday Gleaner for Fast and the Furious 6 Tips and Tricks”. Until then, this is basic Training Wheels as it relates to dealing with difficult customers!

Sutherland Global Services needs full time Call Center Agents

The Christmas holiday is coming up, which means depending on their clients, their Call Center Call Volume is ramping up, making Christmas a prime time for hiring Temps and New Agents as veterans in the Call Center World, such as myself know as stated in my blog article entitled “How to find work in Jamaica at Call Centers - Global Outsourcing Limited CEO Devon Crump comments indicate Paper Free Environment needed at Call Centers to prevent Scamming and attract more BPO's”.

Sutherland Global Services is located in the Mona Technology Park on the UWI Campus.

Despite UWI’s affiliation to the Call Center, it appears that the initial idea of just hiring UWI Students wasn’t working out and as I’d predicted above, they’re in need of experienced Call Center Agents, whether or not they are UWI Students. It doesn’t specify how many, but there is a Mona Technology Park Application link for Sutherland Global Services that you click on to get the Process going, a Process which I’ve Started.

Sutherland Global Services process of hiring Customer Care Consultants is fairly simple. The Advert, which came in the Sunday Gleaner dated Sunday October 20th 2013, indicates that they’re in need of Full-Time Customer Care Consultants as they call them. Clearly Graduate Students aren’t the target as I’ve explained above, as they still are not blissfully aware of Economic Reality of Jamaica outside of the UWI Bubble.

The application process is a multistage one that initially assess your flexibility to work 24/7 Monday to Friday by asking a series of questions. If you complete those stages after repeatedly re-entering the same information during the application process, you’re then taken to a digital signup form to complete with your relevant work details.

You need to complete this to even get called for an Interview so despite this repetitiveness, its best you put aside at least 1 hours time online to do this form and have an active email account, your Resume and Application letter handy as you’ll have to upload them as well. As such, if you’ve already applied and are continuing your Application, then click on the Sutherland Global Login Page and login to continue.

That’s it. I’m keeping my eye on ADV Communications and awaiting when they’ll start putting up their adverts seeking Call Center Agents as predicted in my blog article entitled “How to find work in Jamaica at Call Centers - ADV Communications is a New Call Center Coming to The Towers on Dominica Drive in New Kingston”. In the meantime, here’s the link for Applying to Sutherland Global Services at the Mona Technology Park at UWI:
