How FaceBook giving Teenagers the power of Public Posts improves their Advertising Revenue

“Teens are among the savviest people using of social media, and whether it comes to civic engagement, activism, or their thoughts on a new movie, they want to be heard”

Spokesperson on Privacy at FaceBook in a FB Newsroom release on Wednesday October 16th 2013

FaceBook only a few weeks on Thursday October 10th 2013 had decided to remove a layer of its privacy policy that was not only unused but also not really working, the infamous “Who can look up your Timeline by Name” feature.

Now FaceBook is allowing Teenagers (ages 13 to 17) to make Public posts, a move that’ll cause panic among many parents already deeply mistrustful of FaceBook as stated in the article “FACEBOOK ISN’T LIKE A REGULAR MOM, IT’S A COOL MOM: TEENS NOW HAVE THE OPTION TO POST PUBLICLY”, published October 17, 2013 by Kate Knibbs, Digital Trends.

You can read Facebook’s NewsRoom Announcement to see their original official pronouncement that’ll possibly either freak out most Teenagers (ages 13 to 17) already scared of their parents or attract them in droves. Personally, giving them this choice will freak them out and push many towards Twitter or even Snapchat which is also the other Mobile Social Network competitor creeping up on FaceBook as stated in my blog article entitled “Snapchat now racks up 350 million shares of self-deleting snaps per day - Milennial Girl’s Litmus Test for Friends and future boyfriends”.

For those Teenagers (ages 13 to 18) who find this a tad creepy, here’s a handy guide as to how to decide what to Post and what not to post and where to Post it on Social Media:

But if you’re one of those Teenagers (ages 13 to 17) that have decided to bare your soul to the Public, then be advised that when you post also makes a difference.  According to Metrics from URL (Universal Resource Locator) Shortening service Bit.ly, different Social Networks have different times that result in optimal exposure best for posting as shown below.

Why 13+ have the Power – More Bucks from Advertising

The reason is very simple to figure out: FaceBook want you to make your entire life public and searchable via their contextual sensitive Search Engine Graph Search as explain in my blog article entitledFacebook removes Who can look up your Timeline by name feature - Facebook Pages vs Facebook Profiles as the Power of Privacy is in YOUR Hands”.

After all, like Tessanne Chin on “The Voice, Advertising is FaceBook’s “Bread and Butter” based on the statistics presented in my blog article entitled “Facebook continues to grow despite challenges from Mobile Social Network - Facebook is Growing Strong like House Tyrell in Game of Thrones”.

This no different from when I post my articles on my Blog My Thoughts on Technology and Jamaica or on any website. Most Websites are Public Access by default anyway unless you restrict access via issueing Paid membership logins and Passwords e.g. The Journal of Nature or other Scientific Journals, and create the same layer of Friends and Permissions on your Website as exists on FaceBook. FaceBook is effectively joining the Social Media Bandwagon by making everything Public.

By making this decision FaceBook is improving Advertising Metrics via making everything anyone posts Public and Searchable via Google Graph or Bing. That’ll make advertisements easier to find and thus make their website more attractive to advertisers. Aside from making you more searchable via Graph Search, FaceBook had already unleashed their FBX (Facebook Exchange) platform in March 2012 as stated in Facebook makes risky bet on News Feed ads that track you”, published March 28, 2013 4:00 AM PDT by Jennifer Van Grove, CNET News

This is to allow advertisers for large clients access to their treasure trove of Cookie Tracking data mined from cookies in your Browser whenever you login to FaceBook and visit other websites while still logged into FaceBook. They’ve also made their Developer Tools for individual Advertisers dead simple to use albeit they haven’t dropped their prices as stated in Facebook wises up with dumbed-down ad tools”, October 8, 2013 11:11 AM PDT by Jennifer Van Grove, CNET News.

Google+ is on the Rise – Facebook breaks down the Berlin Wall like a Wrecking Ball

Finally, a possibly the best piece of evidence that the Big Blue’s all about the Advertising Benjamins, FaceBook has also decided to include Google+ as a Advertising Partner. This as DoubleClick, Google’s Google+ Social Network Liason for advertising, has finally been allowed to participate in FBX as stated in “Say what? Google will now sell Facebook ads”, published October 18, 2013 2:38 PM PDT by Desiree Everts DeNunzio, CNET News.

The move will allow FaceBook to benefit from the phenomenal rise of Google+ in the last 2 years since July 2011 as explained in my blog article entitled “Google+ is expanding rapidly and is set to beat Facebook by 2016 - Batman the Dark Knight Rises as the new Social Network King”. Effectively folks, the Cold War relations between FaceBook and Google are thawing as FB realizes that they need to work together.

Many in the Developing World are becoming Mobile Social Media junkies as cheaper smartphones and Tablets become available such as the DL600 here in Jamaica as announced in my blog article entitled “Digicel officially launches DL600 smartphones on Friday October 18th 2013 and JA$100 2-Day Data Plans - Ours is the Fury as Digicel’s DL600 secures their Throne in this Game of Phones against LIME”.

It’s thus creating a gently rising tide that benefits everyone riding on the Social Media Bandwagon! The Breaking of the Berlin Wall between FaceBook and Google+ may mark the thawing of relations between to two giants of Social Media as this move is like a Wrecking Ball, Miley Cyrus Style!
