YouTube's now clocking 1 billion Unique visitors per month - How to see who's watching YouTube Videos as they go Star Trek Into the Darkness in VOD Territory

YouTube’s now clocking some 1 billion unique views per month as of Thursday May 2nd 2013. This as stated in the article “YouTube Claims Victory Over TV - Battle Won With One Billion Visitors Per Month”, published 5/02/2013 @ 11:55AM by TJ McCue, Forbes.

That’s basically more viewers than Cable TV and Free-to-Air TV, a serious victory for Web-based VOD (Video on Demand). That’s also 1/6 of the population of the earth per month watching YouTube!

The YouTube Stats are equally impressive:

1.      1 trillion views in 2011, approximately 140 views per person
2.      70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the US
3.      1,000,000+ advertisers on YouTube
4.      YouTube serves 53 countries and across 61 languages
5.      Subscriptions by the millions each day

Definitely YouTube’s on their way to profitability as I’d predicted in my blog article entitled “YouTube's March To profitability in the Fourth Quarter of 2012AD”. The might just achieve that as YouTube’s planning subscription channels as alledged in the article “YouTube reportedly near launch of paid channel subscriptions”, published May 5, 2013 8:00 PM PDT by Steven Musil, CNET News.

This is somewhat akin to Subscriber VOD, effectively NetFlix’s Territory but using quality user content, thereby allowing these content makers to make more revenue from their original works of film. YouTube’s clocking some impressive Ad Revenue numbers too, based on the say-so of a stock analyst at RBC Capital Markets:

1.      US$2.5 billion in revenue in 2011
2.      US$4 billion in revenue in 2012

But if you want to get a better idea of what’s being watched on YouTube, look no further than the YouTube Trends Map that made its appearance on Tuesday May 7th 2013. The YouTube Trends Mapp is really Google Trends but for YouTube as described in the article “YouTube Trends Map shows most popular videos across U.S.” published May 7, 2013 7:03 AM PDT by Lance Whitney, CNET News.

This YouTube Trends Map gives a better idea of who’s watching YouTube in the US of A and is basically a Google trends implementation for YouTube. Currently the map only shows the US of A, but that’ll change soon. After all, 70% of YouTube’s viewers are outside of the United States.

The YouTube Trends Map breaks down real-time YouTube video surfing habits of viewers into the following categories:

1.      The most popular videos based on the number of shares or the number of views
2.      Filter the results by gender and/or age range
3.      Video list shows the number of views per video
4.      Bar graphs compiles the percentage of YouTube users checking out the top videos

Please take “real-time” with a heaped teaspoonful of powdered Cinnamon; any viewing activity beyond 48 hours won’t show depending on the filter settings. Great Expectations from YouTube as it relates to this venture into VOD territory like Star Trek Into the Darkness (2013).
