US Airlines Pilots endorse the Apple iPad - Tessanne Chin's Hideaway in the PaperLess Revolution

Our country has deliberately undertaken a great social and economic experiment noble in motive and far-reaching in purpose.

Herbert Hoover, Letter to Senator Borah, 1928

The concept of the Paperless Office has gotten a lot of bad Press……..until the Apple iPad arrived. Granted, it will never be a good e-Reader like the Amazon Kindle or the Barnes and Noble Nook, with its strong female following with CVM TV Producer and Media Personality Beauty Queen Regina Beavers, on the hit morning time show CVM at Sunrise leading the adoption curve in Jamaica with her Amazon Kindle as stated in my blog article entitled “Women adore the Barnes and Noble Nook Colour – Free e-reader Home Improvement”.

Meanwhile in the US of A, as far back as 2010AD, the Apple iPad and Apple CEO Steve Jobs has found acceptance among members of the House of Representatives, specifically House Representative Senator Henry Cuellar (D-Texas). He spoke adoringly of the Apple iPad to iPadDailyNews on Tuesday December 28th 2010AD, saying, quote: “If you look at available technology, properly leveraged it can make us a more efficient Congress; there is so much immediate information we can gather with an iPad.”.

No wonder Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America also paid lip service to the lucky “toy” as some American has styled the Apple iPad Tablet as stated in the article “Even the President has Praise for Apple CEO Steve Jobs”, published Thursday December 23, 2010 5:10 pm ET by Jennifer LeClaire, newsfactor.com, Yahoo! News. In effect, the President of the United States of America has given tacit approval to the Paperless Revolution as recorded in my blog article entitled Apple iPad and the House of Representatives - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”.

So I am pleased to announce that United Airways, which represents US Airways and Continental pilots, has apparently taking a leaf out of House Representative Senator Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America book and have endorsed the idea of using the Apple iPad in Airplanes as stated in the article “United Airlines switching to iPads in the cockpit”, published AUGUST 23, 2011 7:10 AM PDT By Josh Lowensohn, CNET News - APPLE TALK.

Specifically, they are using the Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck, a navigation App, a category that is Fourth in terms of popularity of Apps as stated in my Geezam Blog article entitled “Smartphones and Apps – Freemium Games are No. 1” and FAA (Federal Aviation Authority) approved. Quite a coincidence, really, as only yesterday, I wrote an article about RC (Remote Control) flying aircraft, effectively a toy, as per my blog article entitled “Griffin Helo TC US$50 Apple iPhone controlled Helicopter – TVJ and CVM TV's Flight of the Navigator”.

According the article it’s a swap, really: 38 lbs of bulky manuals in exchange for the 1.5lb Apple iPad. A total of eleven thousand (11,000) Apple iPad, which really works out, if you do the math, as it eliminates twelve thousands sheets of paper per pilot and saves the airline three hundred and twenty six (326,000) gallons of jet fuel a year!

United Airways official Press Release sums it up, quote: “Each iPad, which weighs less than 1.5 pounds, will replace approximately 38 pounds of paper operating manuals, navigation charts, reference handbooks, flight checklists, logbooks and weather information in a pilot's flight bag. A conventional flight bag full of paper materials contains an average of 12,000 sheets of paper per pilot.”

Wow, that’s a lot of paper!

Thus don’t be surprised that REDjet Chairman Ian Burns may also be getting the Apple iPad in their operations to reduce fuel consumption and weight, now having gotten approval to fly the Caribbean routes as per my blog article entitled “REDjet Coming in October - CAL's Nicholas III Hunt for Red October”.

Especially now that REDjet is the darling of the Caribbean after receiving its flying wings from CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) of the respective territories who are, coincidentally, stakeholders in CAL (Caribbean Airlines) as stated in the article “REDjet is now the darling of Caribbean aviation”, published Friday August 12 2011, The Jamaica Observer. Ditto for CAL!

Next up for replacement: Subscription Newspapers from The Jamaica Observer and The Jamaica Gleaner as per my blog article entitled “Traditional News Media vs Broadband Telecoms - GigaOM's Avoiding ELE After Deep Impact” here in Jamaica, after REDjet and CAL make the First Class passengers jealous. Par for course, as the US Airways and Continental pilots have probably already figured out how to do that!

As soon as the CAA of the relevant Caribbean Islands approve the testing of the Apple iPad and the Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck to replace those bulky aviation charts, Tessanne Chin’s Hideaway Style.

Thank you United Airways for believing in my Apple iPad idea!
